What are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport?
These are purified proteins that relax muscles by blocking nerve impulses. Once the muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother, creating a more natural and relaxed appearance. Dr. Allaei performs all of his own injections and meticulously records every session to ensure that therapy has been optimized for your anatomy and aesthetic interests.
How is Dysport different?
DYSPORT was recently approved by the FDA. Dysport consists of the same basic ingredient as Botox. Dysport and BOTOX® Cosmetic have similar mechanisms of action that relax the muscles that make wrinkle-causing expressions. The effects of Dysport are said to last approximately 1 month longer than Botox and take effect in 1-2 days post treatment.
How are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport different from other procedures?
They block nerve transmission to relax the underlying muscles beneath the skin. The effect is not permanent, lasting about four months.
How are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport different from fillers?
Botox Dysport is a protein that relaxes the muscles that create lines whereas fillers are agents that fills in the lines due to lost collagen caused by aging.
Are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport approved by the FDA?
Botox Cosmetic was approved by the FDA in April 2002 and Dysport in April of 2009 for cosmetic use.
Am I too young for Botox Dysport?
Depending on your race, genetics, and prior sun exposure, you may begin to experience premature aging of your skin that would benefit from BOTOX ® Dysport therapy. At times, this can be very helpful for some twentysomethings who are already beginning to show fine lines. Typically, for fairer skinned individuals (lighter-skinned Caucasians), treatments can be started in the earlier to avoid the development of wrinkles.
Will I always need to use BOTOX ®?
Yes and No. If you tend to habitually frown or lift your eyebrows due to force of habit, BOTOX ® can help block that behavior and thereby help you “unlearn” this excessive facial expression that would predispose you toward early wrinkling. However, smiling should always be an encouraged expression, so BOTOX ® around the eyes will most likely be required on an ongoing basis. To really reap the benefit of BOTOX ® to prevent wrinkles, you must be consistent in your usage.
How long does the procedure take?
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport injections take approximately 10 minutes to administer.
Do the injections hurt?
Most of our BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport patients compare the sensation of receiving an injection to a bug bite. Dr. Allaei uses one of the smallest needles made in the industry, they are as small as those used in acupuncture. Patients are often pleasantly surprised how little (to none) they actually feel during the treatment, especially if they have had it done anywhere else.
What should I do prior to treatment?
The use of aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications and alcohol should be stopped approximately two days before treatments to reduce potential bruising or swelling. On the day of the procedure remove all makeup and wash your face with soap and water.
What should I do after treatment?
No exercising or lying down for four hours after injections is recommended. Do not excessively touch the area that was treated for the first 4 hours after injection.
How will I look after the treatment?
Although the results are dramatic, treatments should not radically change facial appearance. BOTOX ® can limit some facial expressions, like frowning (connoting an angry or sad expression) and raising your brows (connoting a startled or quizzical expression). However, BOTOX ® will not limit your ability to smile and express joy. Therefore, BOTOX ® can be thought of as limiting “negative” expressions without compromising “positive” expressions. Clearly, a detailed consultation with Dr. Allaei will help you determine your aesthetic goals and how BOTOX ® can help you achieve them. Also, BOTOX ® is completely temporary so if you don’t like the result, it will be gone after a few months.
How long does it last?
The effects last for three to four months for most individuals. When the BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport treatment wears off, wrinkles and lines will gradually revert to pre-treatment appearance. Because these are purified proteins, over time they are slowly absorbed and processed by the body.
What are the side effects?
Initially after treatment there can be some swelling and redness that will disappear in 10-15minutes. Your doctor has a special technique from minimizing any side effects which are rare and not permanent. Rarely, there can be a slight headache or some minor?bruising which is easily covered up with makeup. Ptosis [droopy lid ] is rare and?is always temporary. It occurs in less than 1% of patients and to date, we have never had a patient with this side effect.
What is Restylane?
Restylane is a crystal clear gel that binds to the water in the skin creating volume for filling in areas of tissue loss. Restylane contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring component of the skin that is the framework or medium in which cells live. In gel form it binds to water and provides volume for filling in areas of tissue loss, such as smile lines.
What is Perlane?
Restylane® is available in two forms: Perlane is the most concentrated formula and is used for deeps line. Facial contours like the cheeks, chin, and hollowness?under the eyes can all be improved with this product. Restylane®, a little less dense, is used for the lips, facial wrinkles around the?mouth, forehead or eyes.
How does it work?
Injected beneath your skin, much like spackle is used to fill in cracks in your walls. Restylane® then works with your body’s own hyaluronic acid to create the volume needed to lift fine lines and wrinkles.
How long does it last?
Restylane usually lasts from six months to one year in most individuals.
How long does a treatment take?
The treatment takes about 30 minutes with immediate results and no downtime.
Is it painful?
Restylane® injections are usually painless in treating wrinkles, however the area can be slightly red and swollen afterwards. This generally goes away in a day or two. On rare occasions, patients have experienced temporary swelling, redness and tenderness at or near the injection site several weeks after treatment. Dr. Allaei will use a specially formulated topical cream to numb the area prior to the procedure. Furthermore, you can request your filler to be prefilled with the numbing medication Lidocaine.
What are the differences between collagen and Restylane?
Human and bovine collagen dissolves in the system faster and does not last as long as Restylane which a hyaluronic acid.
What kind of wrinkles can be treated?
Common areas are the corners of the mouth, the nasolabial folds (smile lines), the wrinkles around the lips as well as lip enhancement to provide a fuller lip.
Is it safe?
More than 300,000 people have been successfully treated in more than 40 countries. Restylane® is the only product to offer NASHA, or Non-Animal, Stabilized, Hyaluronic Acid. NASHA is the first stable, biodegradable, non-animal hyaluronic acid available and is produced under carefully controlled conditions in our patented process.
Do I need allergy testing?
No, Restylane Perlane are nonanimal products made of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in humans.
What is Latisse?
LATISSE® solution (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% – is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. Hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes.
How does Latisse work?
The active ingredient in Latisse® eyelash grower is called bimatoprost. Research suggests that growth of eyelashes occurs by increasing the percent of hairs in, and the duration of, the anagen (or growth) phase of the hair follicle. Bimatoprost can prolong this growth phase, hence you get longer lashes. It also appears to help generate extra lashes, so your lashes get fuller. While the exact mechanism is unknown, it appears Latisse™ strengthens your lashes and increases the life cycle of each lash. Latisse® also increases the pigment, or color of the lash. Thus, over the treatment course with Latisse® eyelash grower, all of your own lashes become fuller, longer, thicker and darker. Naturally, when you stop using the product, your eyelashes will eventually return to their original state.
Is Latisse really safe to use?
Latisse is safe to use. Latisse was clinically tested in a pivotal Phase III, multi-center, double-masked, placebo-controlled study to assess its safety and efficacy in which all endpoints (improved eyelash prominence, length, thickness and darkness) were met. Bimatoprost, the active ingredient in Latisse, was first approved in 2001 as a medical product to lower intraocular pressure in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Patients treated with bimatoprost for this specific eye condition experienced eyelash growth as a side effect. The long-term safety of bimatoprost for therapeutic use has been recognized by the medical community and well established based on use in 32 clinical trials involving more than 5,700 glaucoma patients and more than 13 years of clinical trial experience. Given the existing and substantial clinical and post-marketing safety data with bimatoprost solution 0.03%, coupled with the positive results from the Phase III Latisse study, Latisse provides patients a clinically meaningful aesthetic benefit with a favorable safety profile.
How old do you have to be to use Latisse?
Latisse is appoved for ages 18 years and older.
Can men use Latisse too?
Yes, of course. Latisse® is appropriate for men or women if conditions warrant it.
How long does it take to see results using Latisse? And is it permanent?
LATISSE® users may see results at 8 weeks with full results at 12 to 16 weeks. The growth is gradual over time. If you stop using LATISSE®, your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months
Does Latisse need to be refrigerated?
No. In fact, it’s a good idea to keep it handy – say in your bathroom, so that you will remember to use it every day.
What, if any, are the side effects to consider with Latisse?
The most common side effects after using LATISSE® solution are an itching sensation in?the eyes and/or eye redness, which were reported in approximately 4% of patients. These?may occur immediately after use, but should usually last only for a short period of time.?Eye itching and eye redness are not allergic reactions, and do not mean that your eyes are?being harmed.
How often do I apply Latisse Eyelash Solution?
Apply Latisse once per day. It is recommended that you do this as a part of your nighttime routine. If you forget a day, don’t worry and just start up again the next night. However, do not compensate for missed eyelash treatments by applying more solution. After the initial 16 week treatment, many Latisse users opt to apply every other day or a few times per week.
Can I still use mascara while using Latisse?
Yes, you may continue to use mascara while using Latisse. Shizuka New York Day Spa also recommends Eyelash Revitalizing Gel or mascara, available from our online store.
If I am pregnant or nursing – can I still use Latisse?
Unfortunately, no. Latisse is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women as potential side effects to the unborn or nursing infant are not fully known. Besides, your hair and lashes will be gorgeous anyway!
Can I still wear Contact lenses while using Latisse?
Yes, but contact lenses should be removed prior to application of LATISSE®. They may be reinserted 15 minutes following its administration.
What happens if I accidentally get it into my eye?
Not to worry. LATISSE® solution is an ophthalmic drug product. If any gets into the eye, it is not expected to cause harm. The eye should not be rinsed.
How do I Apply Latisse?
Make sure to remove your contacts, cleanse your face, remove any eye makeup, and apply any skin care products or eye creams before applying Latisse eyelash treatment. Remove an applicator from its tray. Then, holding the sterile applicator horizontally, place one drop of Latisse solution on the area of the applicator closest to the tip but not on the tip. Immediately draw the Latisse applicator carefully along the skin at the base of the upper eyelashes (where the eyelashes meet the skin) going from the inner part of your lash line to the outer part. Do not apply in your eye or to the lower lid because excess hair growth outside the treatment area may occur. Blot any excess Latisse solution beyond the eyelid with a tissue. Dispose of the Latisse applicator after one use. Repeat for opposite eyelid, using a new sterile applicator to help minimize any potential for contamination from one eyelid to another.
